One life- Positive and Negative Thoughts
To develop our One Life learning, we read the book 'Catching Thoughts'. We spoke about how we all have positive and negative thoughts, but we can choose which ones to listen to as not all thoughts are facts. Sometimes these thoughts can cause unhelpful feelings such as anger, but we need to catch the thought before it gets too big. That is where our inner cheerleaders come in. Try and hold onto the positive thoughts, so we can live our One Life well. Here are some of our positive and negative thoughts.
One life- Positive self
The beginning of our ‘One Life’ journey! To introduce One Life, we read the book ‘I am enough’ and unpicked the key learning. We discussed how we are all unique by celebrating our differences and voicing what makes us special. We spoke about how we are all born to shine brightly and we have the power to do that if we believe we can. We drew a self portrait and spoke positive words about ourselves using affirmations. Our affirmations are fantastic!
One life- Exploring emotions through the colour monsters
Here we explored and labelled the different colour monster emotions.
One life- Inner cheerleaders
In this One Life lesson, we spoke about how we have the power to control our thoughts. Sometimes things can happen to us that make us experience big emotions, but when we are self-aware, we can control our behaviours and show up as our best selves. We discussed how we all have positive thoughts and unhelpful thoughts. We are going to call these our 'inner cheerleader' (positive thoughts) and ‘inner critic’ (unhelpful thoughts). We discussed what our inner cheerleader looked like to us, drew it and named it. Our inner cheerleaders will be consistently referred to throughout our time at Wheldon to promote positive thoughts, so we couldn't wait to share them with you!

Science Experiment
We explored if the height we drop a ball effects the size of the “crater” it makes. We predicted what we thought would happen, tested our ideas and then discussed the results. We found the higher we dropped the ball from meant the crater was deeper and wider.
Science Week
During science week we made box model dinosaurs using junk materials. We learnt about how fossils are formed and made our own from clay.

Boat Trip
We loved steering the boats and looking out for different wildlife on our trip.
Sports Day
We enjoyed competing in lots of races and cheering on our friends.
Super Hero Day
We loved dressing up as super heroes for the day.
Blaze Pods Workshop
We had to test our reaction skills in the Blaze Pods Workshop. We were told which colour we had to find and then we had to press our button only. At the end we found out who pressed the most buttons in the minute. We have some children with very quick reactions!
Coronation of King Charles III
We celebrated the coronation of King Charles III by finding out what will happen in London and around the world on this special day. We made our own crowns, took part in coronation crafts and we even had our own coronation ceremony!
International Dance Day
We loved learning a dance and performing it to our parents. Look at our amazing video!
Daffodil Painting
We created daffodil pictures to celebrate spring and we loved displaying them in our Easter performance.
Red Rose Day - Friday 17th March 2023
We celebrated Red Nose Day today. We embraced "big hair" and wore our own clothes. We learnt where the money we have raised goes and how it helps other children.
World Book Day - Thursday 2nd March 2023
Have a look at our amazing costumes! We loved dressing up to celebrate books and reading today. We visited Castleford Library to share some stories, songs and rhymes. We even got a free book to take home from the Book Trust.
Cuddle Pets
We enjoyed designing and making cuddle pets as part of our Design Technology lessons.

Boat Trip - 27th June 2022
Cannon Hall Farm School Trip
We all had a fantastic time on our school trip. We enjoyed watching the ferret racing before exploring the roundhouse and the mammel house. We then had fun in the tubes and tunnels. It was then time for us all to sit down for lunch! After we had eaten we went on a tour of the farm barns and were able to feed the animals and we had a look inside the reptile house. Finally we all had a great time in the playground before setting back off to school.
