1. Reading sounds

Here is a video showing the first 25 set 1 sounds. Please watch the video with your child. Our aim is for your child to be speedily reading all 25 sounds by Christmas. Turn off the volume as the video plays to see if your child pauses or struggles to recognise any of the sounds. If they do, please go over that sound with your child. Play some exciting games with your child, such as hiding the sound around the house to see if your child can find it, or playing 'splat the sound' where you call out a sound and your child has to splat it with their hand. In addition, remember to use your virtual classroom videos that are sent home to you via Tapestry or MarvellousME.

2. Writing sounds

It is super important that we are forming our letters correctly. Please watch these 5 videos at home and support your child to form them correctly. You could write the letters using different materials such as chalk, pencils, in flour or shaving foam.

4. Reading and writing words

After you have played some Fred Games with your child, please listen to them read their sound blending book and write any comments in their reading record. After they have finished reading, it would be great if you could support your child to have a go at spelling some of the words in their sound blending book. Say the word aloud and use Fred Fingers to pinch the sounds to help you write them. Remember to add it to Tapestry!

Can your child write their name with beautiful formation? Below you will see a handwriting guide. This half term we are practising the ladder letter family. Use the guide below to practising correctly forming each letter in the ladder letter family.

As an additional activity, shout out some CVC words to your child and see if they can use their fred fingers to spell the work independently.
