Here is a video showing the correct pronunciation of set 1, sounds. Please watch the video with your child. Our aim is for all children to be reading words with set 1 sounds by the end of Autumn term. Turn off the volume as the video plays to see if your child pauses or struggles to recognise any of the sounds. If they do, please go over that sound with your child. Play some exciting games with your child, such as Fred talk games to help their oral blending skills. Below is a document which explains how to play some FRED games with your child.
Writing
It is super important that we are forming our letters correctly. In class this half term, we will be focusing on the 'long ladder' letter family. The long ladder letter family consists of the letters l,i,t,u,j,y In this letter family we discuss how each letter starts with a downward motion . In addition, we also use the RWI handwriting rhymes to remember how to form each letter. You could write the letters using different materials such as chalk, pencils, in flour or shaving foam.
We also are working hard on our name writing and we encourage to write their name everyday on their independent work.
Use the RWI letter formation rhymes below to support you to form your letters correctly.
Maths
We follow White Rose Maths and NCETM Mastering Number programme. This half term we will be focusing on developing subitising and counting skills. We will explore the composition of numbers within 5. We will begin to compare sets of objects and use the language of comparison.
Please see below some ideas you can do to support your child.
